I’ve been reflecting on where AI will genuinely make a positive difference for humanity. My expectation is not that we will live in a world without developers or that everything will become automated, putting 80% of the population out of work within the next five years. If AI were to cripple the entire economy by rendering consumers incapable of purchasing goods, it would essentially be a self-defeating endeavor.
Instead, I believe this will be a gradual transition, similar to the early days of the web, which made buying almost anything online a reality. AI also holds significant potential to improve society, largely by drastically shortening innovation cycles. A common and compelling argument is that researchers and developers can now focus on what truly matters, delegating routine tasks to AI and using it as a ‘super-Wikipedia’—one that not only provides answers but also executes complex tasks.
Therefore, the most profound impact of AI may be subtle: by acting as a powerful catalyst for human creativity and problem-solving, it can help us build a better future, provided we navigate its integration with careful thought and intention.
Have fun,
Rüdiger
